Go-Ride sessions at Wordsley
School Coaches
experiences – 1 Tim Goodall
On the 7th February I led my first coaching session
at Ham
Dingle Primary School
in Pedmore as part of my practical experience
for the Level 2 Coaching Certificate. Terry Rowntree was on hand
to help run the session which was of a great help and much appreciated.
It was a great success with the children loving it, well thats
what they said anyway and judging by their screams it was probably
the case.
Their were six
girls and two boys all of varying abilities, but they all had one
thing in common and that was heaps of enthusiasm. It was very refreshing
to see and hugely satisfying. It was one of four sessions, which
will resume on a weekly basis after their half term.
Update - May 2007: I have done for out of six
sessions as part of my coaching experience, the other two of which
I am in the process of planning.

Coaching
update September 2008
The
clubs skills sessions at the Wordsley School have now drawn
to a close for this year. They were a great success over the
summer term, however numbers dropped over the summer holidays,
understanderbly really. The sessions consisted of a warm up
followed by a skills session i.e. cornering, climbing etc.
Then finishing off on alternating weeks with a short cyclo-cross
race and a ride in the woods. The former of which which brought
out the highly competitive spirit amongst many of the youngsters.
Riders who attended regularly made huge improvements in both
their fitness and skill levels which was clearly evident,
with some riders showing excellent bike handling and determination
to be the fastest around the grass track.
We are now about to start laying the foundations for next
years activities, details of which will follow shortly, but
are certainly going to be exciting!!!
A big thank you to everyone involved in the delivery of the
sessions and the support from club members and parents alike.

We will be holding a presentation evening for the cycling
skills sessions held at the Wordsley School over the summer
months. It will be held on Monday 15th September at the Oakhill
Community Centre on Brettell Lane, commencing at 8:15 pm.
Here all riders will be presented with a certificate for their
achievements and a small prize. Feel free to bring along family,
where we will also be able to answer any questions regarding
club activities and membership.
All are welcome, so lets show some support for the stars of
tomorrow...
Look forward to seeing you all there!!!

Coaches
experiences – 2 Kevin Payton
Just a note to let members of the club know that Tim,
Matt and my self successfully
passed our level 2 coaching practical assessment on Sat 27th
Jan and have submitted our written course work for examination.
Hopefully we should get confirmation of the results in
the next eight weeks.
The work load was much more than I expected. The suggested
learning programme involved three days of study / assessment
in Worcester plus home assignments and coaching practice totalling
94 hours which meant working well after midnight on several
occasions. This is in addition to the three day first aid
course.
For me the course has been both challenging and demanding
but very rewarding. I have particularly enjoyed the practical
sessions with young people and am hopeful that through their
increased awareness of the sport they may in the future be
looking for club membership.
The club will be looking to put on courses to attract
youngsters and a number of plans are being pursued.
I would like to thank the club for their support in this
venture and hope we can all enjoy the benefits.
